About Giuseppe
“The deepest essence of the practice of Martial Arts is to let go of suffering and connect the soul or Shen with spirit and Tao, being one with Tao. “
In 1991 at the young age of 18, Giuseppe Medlin was blessed to find his life teacher and friend, Master Lyn Dilbeck. His training began with Chen family Tai Chi Chuan 48 movements, a short form created by Master Feng and the traditional silk reeling movements based on spiraling energies. His training immersed him in deep knowledge of the foundational principals that lie within all the internal arts.
In 1994, he participated in meditation retreats with world renowned teacher and Buddhist Vietnamese monk, Thich Nhat Hahn several times. Awakening a love for Buddhism, he began to study with the Palyul lineage of Tibetan Buddhism and was a diligent student of Jetsunma Akon Lhamo for many years after.
In 1997 he was introduced to the famous Taoist priest, Master Zhou Ting Jue, and began learning Wu Dang Qi Gong. He continued his studies for over a decade with Master Zhou to the highest level of teaching. Master Zhou personally taught him Ba Gua, Hsing I and Tai Chi. Over the next 5 years he studied personally with Miranda Warburton, the President of the Tang Shou Tao Association of North America. He extensively learned Gao Shaolin Kung Fu, Gao Ba Gua, Shen Lung Hsing I and Li Zi Ming’s complete Ba Gua system. The Association sent him personally to China as a representative to study with Master Han, the lineage holder of I Chuan. Master Han’s father was a famous Taoist priest and the originator of I Chuan.
Once he returned, he was invited to train with the current grandmaster of the Cacoy Doce Pares lineage, Chris Petrilli. Chris taught him privately the combative arts of Escrima, Escrido and Kali Silat which are Philippine arts utilizing double sticks, single stick, knife and open hand techniques. For over the next 6 years he trained extensively and intensely within these combative arts. He currently holds a 6th degree black belt in the Philippine arts.
In all the years he has been training, he was very fortunate to have learned all these arts directly from the lineage holders themselves. Direct transmission and clear precise understanding of these arts is crucial to martial art integrity. Because of his deep reverence and love for the arts it is very important to Giuseppe that the lineages are kept clear and delineated with their own unique styles and flavor. It is his deepest aspiration to teach others with compassion, love and respect.
